Anybody know how to do this? I have the cable, but I get an error message of not recognizing one of the computers. Just trying to get most of my music, etc from old desktop to new laptop.

Thanks for any help.

Any Radio Shack will have them also-they should be the red cables.

(flash drives are also AWESOME for this)

What if I am making a new PC with old components. Then I have to go the CD burner route I guess. It's funny you asked this becuase it's been on my mind.

I hate having to re-install windows for the very reason the topic starter says.

Thank you all for responding. Sounds like this question may have helped a couple of people.

Most of the items I needed to move were mp3's, so I used a RW CD.

Anybody recommend some good software to completely clear a hard drive? Would like to donate the old computer, but want to make sure it is clear.

Thanks.

I've uploaded a nice software for you. Killdisk 3.1 Pro. It's an image file (ISO). Just burn it on a CD and boot from it.

Good luck

Klowinns,

I have not tried this yet, but thanks. I should get to it by this weekend. When you say "boot" it, do you mean just have it in the disc drive when restarting my computer?

Thanks again.

Hellah thanks for the offer, too.

Syklone: A pleasure. That is correct. Taking in consideration that you've burned CD as a image file (ISO) and your boot in the BIOS is set to boot from your CDRom first.

Any further questions feel free to ask.

Klowinns,

I have downloaded killdisk onto a cd, but when I restarted the computer I got nothing.

What are the steps I should be taking?

Thanks.

Before I posted it worked fine for me.

1) What CD Software did you use? (Recommend Nero)
2) Did you burn it as an image (ISO)?
3) Did you change your bios to boot from your CDRom first? (As your system is starting, press delete and you'll enter a screen with several options. On this screen you should have a boot option. Place the CDRom to boot first.

Please get back to me.

Regards,

Klowinn,

Got it! Using the free version means it only ran through once. Is that sufficient? I found a walkthrough on their site, and it was pretty easy. I am now reinstalling XP. Thanks, again.

Nice to hear the good news.

Was the version I uploaded free/full or did you re-download it from the site. Just curious because I have several folders on my Harddrive with Killdisk. I have to take sometime to clean my drive from free (demo) and full versions.

Thanks.
